The HP Pavilion dv2 12-inch laptop is pretty nifty looking, thin too. I was actually considering it, until I realized the Pavilion dv2 didn’t have an optical drive. The HP Pavilion dv2 laptop is powered by a 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo 64-bit processor for $600-$800.

I suggest you spend a little more and get a brand new Macbook. Its unibody construction and robust OSX operating system is the best I’ve experienced.

Pros:

• HP Pavilion dv3-1075us is a GREAT laptop. I got it because it is small and lightweight I am a student and I wanted something I could take to work with me to do my school work. So far this little guy is great. I like that you can turn the touchpad off. That comes in handy when I am using MS office. The HP on the outer lid lights up and that’s pretty neat.
• This laptop comes with a powerful AMD Turion chip @2.1GHz with 4GB RAM (standard) vs. the Intel Atom @1.6GHz with 512 MB RAM (typical in any netbook, currently). Wireless connectivity is a snap and it comes with the 802.11n standard for much faster access. Ethernet is 10/100/1000 capable.
• This HP is very quiet, as far as heat goes, it has been mostly lukewarm to warm.
• This HDMI was a major selling point to me because it allows me to use the technology available from my monitor.
• Even though it is only 13.3" in size, the keyboard is very comfortable to use and don’t feel any compromise for the small footprint. It is well designed, very modern, sleek and elegant. Not to mention so light-weight.
• This was the only Laptop that had 3 USBs. I love the way the keyboard lights up in low light conditions.

Pros:

• Runs cool and quiet for a AMD. Graphics are great. I have CS source and DOOM 3 they play great. well built and strong but not heavy. good for traveling.
• The Touchpad is different but once I got used to it I like it. Was pleasantly surprised with outside case.
• Small and stylish compared to most in this price range. Has a decent processor and graphics card. Laptop speakers are well above average in quality and loudness compared to most laptops.

Pros:

• Great spec’s for the price. FSB at 1066 MHz, Blu-ray, 4GB RAM. Fast Boot-up (once you delete all the preloaded junk). Unlike the other reviewers, I actually really like the color. Lots of USB ports. This laptop does not get hot after hours of use.
• I used the blu-ray once and it worked fine. I think I would enjoy it more when I hook it up to an HDTV. I’ve watched iTunes videos on it and hooked it up to my larger HP monitor. It works just as well. I truly don’t have any issues with it and I’m very pleased.

Pros:

• Nice size screen, plenty of RAM-great performance and nice to have a number pad on a laptop.
• HDMI output is a great addition, card reader etc. Solidly built as well and not too heavy.
• Easy set up; added software with no problems; looks great. I bought this for my wife whom has much less computer experience. She is pleased with it’s performance; with our high speed cable internet(3gbs) she has been surfing without complaint. Gobs of memory for her to put all her pictures on it. Good price for all it’s atributes.
• Sleek, fairly fast, comes with Vista 64bit to take advantage of the 4Gb memory.
• Comes with a remote that goes in the card slot. Bluetooth works out of the box and is easy to use. The built in webcam is surprisingly good.
• There is a slot in the PC that holds the mini remote control. On the left side of the laptop. Cool! At least I think so.

Cons:

• The touch pad is shiny metal like chrome and it leaves fingerprints and smudgies.
• I find the screen resolution to be lacking for a 16" monitor. The highest res you can get on the DV6 and what this has is only 1366 x 768, it should be available in the 1600 x 900 resolution display like Sony has.
• Battery life ok, not great, ca. 2hr. with typical powersaver settings, probably significantly less if you watch DVDs.
• Hard drive speed is 5400RPM, 7200RPM would be nice.

• I like the Onyx color very much.
• HP Pavilion dv6-1030us laptop is much better than my previous laptop! Our family has almost exclusively had HP Pavilion computers! I am very impressed with this laptop! The features on this laptop make it worth the price. The quality makes the price worth it! I almost went with a more expensive computer and different company; but am glad I went with an HP!!
• It has extra wide screen. Some primitive application’s don’t work well on the ~2:1 aspect ratio.

I am getting an integrated broadband card for my laptop and don’t know who provides more coverage and best service. I have to decide betweeen ATT and Verizon for my laptop?

The top 3 companies in order right now are:

1. Verizon
2. AT&T
3. Sprint

Which one is best depends on what you’ll primarily be using it for. Verizon ranks excellently in customer service and reliability according to J.D. Power and Associates, while AT&T ranks average and Sprint is below average.

For Speed, a recent article shows that AT&T may be the fastest right now (and definitely will be by the end of the year) with 7.2 Mbps download speed. That’s about faster than what you’d get with some cable providers like Comcast and Time Warner. Verizon ranks second while Sprint ranks third as it’s network is a mixture of fast and somewhat fast speeds (EVDO Revision A and 0).

In the coverage department, Sprint has everyone beat with the largest mobile broadband network. Following on their heels are AT&T who’s investing millions of dollars to upgrade their network in time for the 3G I-Phone release and also by the end of 2009. Verizon is also making upgrades but not as aggressively.

The Dell’s designers are considering a red plastic/leather lid combo, the Dell Studio XPS new color is nice, I know you’ll like this one, It was only a matter of time really. Although, i wonder if they are going to use some of the more artsy designs found in their lower tier Studio line.
